National Public Lands Day Summer Intern/Program Assistant
Introduction
The National Public Lands Day Program, a program of The National Environmental Education Foundation, is seeking a person to fulfill an Intern/Program Assistant position from July-September, 2007.
National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands American’s enjoy. In 2006, over 100,000 volunteers participated at 1100 public land sites in all 50 states. This year’s event is September 29, 2007. Please go to www.publiclandsday.org for more information.
Position Overview
The position of Summer Intern/Program Assistant assists with coordination of The National Public Lands Day Program. The Intern/Program Assistant works closely with the Program Coordinator and Program Director.
Candidates should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, an eye for details, and experience managing projects. The National Public Lands Day Program offers the opportunity to gain practical knowledge about working with public agencies, the media and not-for-profit organizations.
Primary Duties
• Outreach and communicate with potential and current site-managers with a special focus on coordinating partnership with specific partners and sponsors.
• Assist with governmental correspondence
• Assist with development of content for National Public Lands Day web page
• Keep updated, detailed organization of more than 1,000 participating sites by managing database and updating website
• Other organizational and administrative duties as needed
Qualifications and Skills
• Minimum requirement is student working towards Bachelor’s degree in related field.
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
• Previous experience working at or with non-profit or land-management organizations
• A working knowledge of public lands and the agencies that manage them
• A strong interest in nature and outdoor/environmental education.
• Computer proficiency included but not limited to:
o Experience with Microsoft Word, Access, Excel applications.
o Experience with website maintenance and/or design, specifically Dreamweaver
o Adobe Suite: PhotoShop, InDesign, etc.
Schedule
• Position starts mid-July through September, 2007
• Part-Time 20-25 hours per week
Compensation
• $12-$15/hr depending on qualifications
